Taxon:

Mouse

Gene:

Nap1l5

Chromosome:

06

Location:

6 C1, 28.5 cM

Description:

Nap1l5 (nucleosome assembly protein 1 - like 5) is expressed exclusively or predominantly from the paternal allele in brain and adrenal glands. In other tissues no evidence of allele specific expression was found. Nap1l5 is intronless and located within an intron of Herc3 (that shows no evidence of imprinting). Nap1l5 is associated with a maternally methylated germline DMR (Smith RJ et al. 2003; Wood AJ et al, 2007).
Beechey (2004) confirmed lack of expression in the brain of a mouse with maternal duplication of the region containing Nap1l5.
Nap1l5 arose by retrotransposition from X chromosome Nap1l2 or Nap1l3 (Wood AJ et al, 2007).
