Magel2 (melanoma antigen-like gene 2, a member of the MAGE gene superfamily) is expressed
exclusively from the paternal allele in adult brain (Boccaccio
I et al, 1999; Lee
S et al, 2000).
Some of the phenotypic features of Magel2 knockout mice resemble Prader-Willi syndrome features
(neonatal growth retardation, excessive weight gain after weaning, and increased adiposity with
altered metabolism in adulthood) (Bischof
JM et al, 2007).
Wang X et al, (2011) provided
evidence for imprinted paternal expression of Magel2 in E17.5 placenta.
