Taxon:

Mouse

Gene:

Peg3 (Pw1)

Chromosome:

07

Location:

06.5 cM, Band A2-B1

Description:

Peg3 (Pw1) is a paternally expressed, zinc finger protein. Peg3 is expressed in early somites, branchial arches and other mesodermal tissues, as well as in the hypothalamus (Kaneko-Ishino T et al, 1995; Kuroiwa Y et al, 1996).
Loss of Peg3 expression results in reduced maternal care, reduced maternal food intake during pregnancy, reduced milk let-down, reduced placental size, impaired fetal growth, suckling and postnatal growth, and delayed puberty (Curley JP et al, 2004).
Glasgow et al, (2005) have described a Peg3 antisense transcript in rat (APeg3). It imprinting status is not yet known.
Bisulfite sequencing revealed that reactivation of maternal alleles of Peg3 in specific tissues was accompanied by partial demethylation at their potential imprinting control regions (Shi W et al, 2005).
Imprinted paternal expression of Peg3 was confirmed in placenta (Wang X et al, 2011 and Okae H et al, 2012 ).
