Taxon:

Mouse

Gene:

Rtl1 (Peg11)

Chromosome:

12

Location:

54.0 cM (8), F1

Description:

Rtl1, similar to its paralogue Peg10 on mouse chromosome 6, is a retrotransposon derived gene with open reading frames showing homology to viral gag and pol proteins. Rtl1 is exclusively paternally expressed (Seitz H et al. 2003).
Other paternally expressed genes in this region include Dlk1 and Dio3. Rtl1 also lies next to other maternally expressed non-coding RNAs such as a C/D snoRNA cluster of at least nine snoRNAs (see Rian) (Cavaillé J et al. 2002), as well as another cluster of miRNAs (see Mirg) and Meg3. This cluster of imprinted genes is conserved with human 14q32.
