Taxon:

Mouse

Gene:

"Growth and development"

Chromosome:

X

Location:

X

Description:

At 10.5 day post coitum XO mouse fetuses with a maternal X chromosome (Xm O), were larger than XX sibs and equivalent in size to their XY sibs, whereas XpO fetuses were developmentally retarded and smaller than their XX sibs (Thornhill AR and Burgoyne PS, 1993).
In XO mice, animals with a retained paternal X chromosome showed developmental retardation at gastrulation and at early organogenesis, and also displayed poor development of the ectoplacental cone. Mice with a retained maternal X developed normally (Jamieson RV et al, 1998).
